How Much Does Window Tint Cost in the Chicago Suburbs?
Three Things Move the Number.
All-around tint starts at $200 for Carbon on a coupe. Here is what moves it up, and how to get your exact number by phone.
At Tint Starz in Elk Grove Village, all-around window tint starts at $200 for Carbon on a coupe or single-cab truck, and ceramic starts at $250 for S5 on the same car. On a sedan, the starting prices are $240 for Carbon, $330 for S5 ceramic and $400 for S9 ceramic. All-around means every side window plus the rear glass.
Each of those is a starting price for a real package, not a teaser. Below is what moves the number up, and how to get yours exactly.
Why so few shops post a price
Look up a tint price in the northwest suburbs and most shop pages give you a quote form, not a number. In a search of the price questions in October 2026, every shop that ranked with published prices was based outside the towns we serve, and some of the top results for how much questions answered with no number at all.
A starting price only helps if a real package costs that much. The window tint prices table lists our public starting prices, each with what it covers.
What moves the price of window tint
Most of the gap between two quotes comes from three places: how much glass the car has, which film goes on it, and whether old film has to come off first. Shade is not one of them: 5 percent and 35 percent cost the same in the same film.
The size of the car
A bigger car takes more film, so the same film starts higher as the car grows: S5 ceramic starts at $250 on a coupe or single-cab truck, $330 on a sedan and $400 on an SUV or truck.
Teslas are priced on their own, from $330 for S5 on a Model 3 or Model Y. A Tesla takes ceramic only, no Carbon.
The film
Carbon, the entry film, blocks 99.9 percent of UV and is rated 72 percent infrared in the 5 percent shade and 41 percent in 35, by Rayno’s figures, and it carries no warranty.
Ceramic is priced on rated performance: S5 Premium Ceramic rejects 53 to 72 percent of infrared, depending on shade, and S9 Highest Performance Ceramic rejects 91 to 93 percent across Rayno’s published shades.
Both ceramics block 99.9 percent of UV, and the warranty is 2 years on S5 and lifetime on S9. The step from S5 to S9 buys more infrared rejection, and that pays off in July.
Old film coming off
Removal on its own runs $80 to $150. Where it lands depends on the old film’s condition and the adhesive it leaves, and that only shows once the film starts coming off. Booked together with new tint, removal is priced in your quote.
If the work grows past the estimate, you see it first, in photos or on a video call, and agree the new price before the shop goes on.
The windshield and the extras
A sunstrip across the top of the windshield starts at $60. On an Illinois registered car, the only windshield film the law allows is a nonreflective strip reaching no more than 6 inches down from the top, which is where the AS-1 line usually falls.
Full windshield film starts at $120 in S5 and $200 in S9. On an Illinois registered car, the law allows only the top 6 inches, so full windshield film is for cars registered in another state or drivers with the medical exemption.
Just the two front windows start at $100 in S5. How dark they may go depends on the rear windows, which the Illinois window tint law page explains. A sunroof is quoted separately.
How do you get an exact number?
Call the shop with two things: the year, make and model, and the film you are leaning toward, or two films if you cannot decide. Or send them through the quote form, and the shop calls you back with an exact price within minutes during shop hours, Monday to Saturday 9 to 6.
The final number depends on the vehicle, the film, the coverage, the condition of the glass and how hard the install is. When you book, a $50 deposit holds your spot and comes off the total, and you can move the appointment once for free with 24 hours notice. Most jobs are done the same day.
Prefer a form? The quote form sends the same request, and the window tint cost estimator adds up the starting prices for your package first.
What cheap film costs you later
Ceramic stays optically clear at night. Cheap film hazes, and night is when you notice it.
Winter is the second test. Film that purples or bubbles over a Chicago winter means doing the job twice: it comes off first, and removal on its own runs $80 to $150, then new film goes on. S5 and S9 survive Chicago winters with no purple and no bubbling, and both carry the shop’s warranty.
Ceramic also cuts low-sun, snow and wet-road glare without going darker, blocks 99.9 percent of UV year round and causes no signal interference, unlike metallic film. You get that every month, not only in July.
Does the price change by town?
No. Every car is tinted at 837 Oakton St Unit C in Elk Grove Village, by appointment, Monday to Saturday 9 to 6, never in a driveway, so tint carries no travel charge. A driver from Schaumburg or Des Plaines pays the same starting prices as one from around the corner.
Drivers rate the shop 5.0 on Google across 82 reviews.
If you live nearby, window tint in Elk Grove Village covers the drive: about 6 minutes from Elk Grove Village Hall outside rush hour. Every public starting price, with what it covers, is on window tint prices.
