A tint shop in Elk Grove Village, and who installs

Tint Starz is a ceramic window tint shop at 837 Oakton St Unit C in Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, serving Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Hoffman Estates and Arlington Heights.

Javi and Tony own Tint Starz, and one of them tints every car. They are its two full-time window tint installers, and the shop opened in 2023.

You book by appointment, Monday to Saturday between 9 and 6. The shop is closed Sunday. Most jobs are done the same day you bring the car in. Javi and Tony also answer calls in Spanish: polarizado de ventanas en español.

The shop is rated 5.0 across 82 Google reviews.

Three films, and what each one blocks

Every car gets one of three films, all of them Rayno window tint. Carbon is the entry film. S5 Premium Ceramic and S9 Highest Performance Ceramic are the two ceramics, from Rayno’s Phantom series, and the gap between them is infrared rejection.

S9 Highest Performance Ceramic (Rayno Phantom S9)91 to 93 percent across Rayno’s published shades (full specs)99.9 percentLifetime70, 50, 35, 20, 15, 12, 5

The infrared and UV figures are Rayno’s own, read October 2026. The warranty is Tint Starz’s, and the warranty page has the details. If the car sits in an open lot all day, S9 is the one to look at: it rejects the most infrared of the two ceramics.

What happens on install day

The car comes to the shop: every car is tinted inside the studio on Oakton Street, by appointment, never in a driveway.

Call to book. If you want the exact price first, send the quote form and the shop calls you back within minutes during shop hours. A $50 deposit holds your spot and comes off your total, and you can move the appointment once for free with 24 hours notice.

After the install, follow Rayno’s care steps for the film. Keep the windows up for at least 72 hours. The film takes 30 days to fully cure, and a hazy look in that time is normal: it is moisture from the install, and it clears as the film dries. Clean the glass without abrasive pads, abrasive cleaners or industrial strength glass cleaners, and leave the edges alone. The warranty page has the same steps, and the guide to how long after tint you can roll the windows down covers cure times in a Chicago winter.

Shades

How dark should you go?

Outside the medical exemption, 35 percent is the darkest shade Illinois allows on every side window and the back glass at once. Go darker in back and the front doors pay for it: 30 percent in back limits them to 50 percent or lighter, and rear film darker than 30 percent means no film on them at all.

The tint shades page previews every shade on one car and shows which films stock each one, so you can compare before you book.

Five of the eight shades we stock, side by side.

The number is how much light the film lets through: 70 is nearly clear, 5 is limo dark.

Prices

Window tint prices, set by the car and the film.

For most cars the starting price comes from two things: the film and the size of the car. All-around means every side window plus the rear glass. The windshield and sunroof are priced separately.

A coupe or single-cab truck is the smallest size, then a sedan, then an SUV or other truck, and every film costs more as the car gets bigger. The list below shows three starting prices, and the window tint prices page has the rest by vehicle and film. For a rough number first, the window tint cost estimator adds up the same starting prices.

Final price depends on the vehicle, film, coverage, condition and installation difficulty. Call us for an exact number.

What Illinois allows on your windows

In Illinois the rear windows set the rule for the front. If no window behind the driver is darker than 35 percent, the front side windows can take nonreflective film at 35 percent or lighter. If the rear windows carry film of at least 30 but under 35 percent, or factory tinted glass, the front sides must be 50 percent or lighter. If aftermarket rear film is darker than 30 percent, the front side windows get no film at all. The rear side windows and back glass have no limit, as long as the car has a side mirror on each side. The windshield takes nonreflective film along the top 6 inches only, which is where the AS-1 line usually falls. The rule is the same for sedans, SUVs and trucks. The Illinois window tint law page has the statute, the medical exemption and the fines. To check one combination, the Illinois tint law checker takes the rear shade, then the front.

Questions

How much does window tinting cost?

Window tinting at Tint Starz starts at $200 for Carbon on a coupe or single-cab truck and $250 for S5 ceramic on a coupe. S5 on a sedan starts at $330, and on an SUV or truck at $400. Every figure is a starting price: the final number depends on the vehicle, film, coverage, condition and installation difficulty.

Call the shop for an exact price, or send the quote form and the shop calls you back within minutes during shop hours. Every starting price is on the window tint prices page, and the guide to how much window tint costs in the Chicago suburbs walks through what moves the number.

How long does window tinting take?

Most jobs at Tint Starz are done the same day you bring the car in. Most cars take 2 to 4 hours, depending on size. The shop confirms when you book. Drop-off is by appointment at 837 Oakton St Unit C in Elk Grove Village.

Can you tint my car the same day?

Usually, yes: most jobs are finished the same day you bring the car in. The shop works by appointment, so whether today is open depends on the schedule. Call to ask, or send the quote form and the shop calls you back with an exact price within minutes during shop hours, then pick a time.

How long is the window tint warranty?

The Tint Starz window tint warranty depends on the film: lifetime on S9, 2 years on S5, no warranty on Carbon. That is the shop's own warranty. The warranty page sets out what it covers, what it does not cover and how to make a claim, plus the care steps while new film cures.

Carbon or ceramic tint: which should I get?

Ceramic, unless price decides it: S5 rejects 53 to 72 percent of infrared depending on shade, S9 91 to 93 percent across Rayno's published shades, and both block 99.9 percent of UV. Carbon costs less, from $200 on a coupe against $250 for S5, and blocks 99.9 percent of UV.

Rayno rates Carbon at 72 percent infrared in the 5 percent shade and 41 percent in 35, and it comes in 35 and 5 percent. The window tint prices page has Carbon, S5 and S9 by vehicle size.

How long does tint last in Chicago weather?

S5 and S9 ceramic are built to survive Chicago winters with no purple and no bubbling, and S9 carries a lifetime warranty. Their 99.9 percent UV block holds in every season, not only July. Carbon blocks 99 percent of UV. The warranty page gives the length for each film.

Do you tint cars at my home?

No. Window tint, PPF and wraps go on inside the shop at 837 Oakton St Unit C in Elk Grove Village, never in a driveway. Film goes on best in a clean, controlled bay, and that is where the work is done. Detailing is different: mobile detailing comes to your driveway in the ten towns the shop serves.

Where are you located?

Tint Starz is at 837 Oakton St Unit C, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. The shop is open by appointment Monday to Saturday from 9 to 6 and closed Sunday. It serves Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights and the other towns around Elk Grove Village.

Every town the shop serves is on the service areas page, and the contact page has the map and the hours.

Is window tint legal in Illinois?

Yes, within limits. Front side windows can take nonreflective film at 35 percent or lighter when no rear window is darker than 35 percent, or 50 percent or lighter when rear film is at least 30 but under 35 percent, or the rear glass is factory tinted. Aftermarket rear film darker than 30 percent means no front film.

The rear side windows and back glass have no limit, with a side mirror on each side, and the windshield takes nonreflective film along the top 6 inches only. The Illinois window tint law page has the full rules, the medical exemption and the fines.
