How to read a spec sheet
- VLT
- Visible light transmission: how much light passes through. 5% is the darkest (limo), 50% is light.
- IR rejection (IRR)
- Infrared rejection: how much infrared heat the film blocks. This is the number most people mean by "IRR" or "IIR". Higher is better.
- TSER
- Total solar energy rejected: all of the sun's energy combined (visible light, infrared and UV). Higher keeps the cabin cooler.
- UV rejection
- How much ultraviolet the film blocks. UV fades interiors and damages skin.
- Glare reduction
- How much the film cuts glare from the sun and headlights.
- Visible light reflection
- How mirror-like the glass looks, inside and outside. Illinois requires non-reflective film; all three read about 5 to 7%.
- SC and SHGC
- Shading coefficient and solar heat gain coefficient, glazing-industry heat numbers. Lower is cooler.
- Fading
- How much the color fades over time. Rayno rates all three films under 1%.
- Haze
- How clear the film looks; lower haze means a clearer view, especially at night and in rain.
