Tesla Model Y Window Tint, and the Model 3.
Rear Glass, Roof, How to Choose.

Both models start at $330 in S5 ceramic. You choose the Model 3 rear glass, the infrared rejection, and whether to add the windshield or ask for a glass roof price.

Tesla Model Y window tint at Tint Starz starts at $330 in S5 ceramic, the same starting price as a Model 3. Both models take ceramic film only, S5 Premium Ceramic or S9 Highest Performance Ceramic. There is no Carbon on any Tesla. The windshield is not part of either package, and the glass roof is quoted on its own.

The models differ on the rear glass, and the films differ on infrared rejection. Here is how to choose.

What does a Tesla tint package cover?

Every Tesla package covers all the side windows. On a Model Y, S5 and S9 both add the rear glass. On a Model 3, S5 adds half of the rear glass and S9 adds all of it. Neither package includes the windshield or the glass roof.

Tesla packages replace the general sedan and SUV prices, so a Model Y is not priced as an SUV. Other Tesla models are quoted separately. The Tesla window tint page lists both packages for each model, with the S9 price and the windshield add-on.

Model 3: half or full rear glass?

On a Model 3, decide how much of the rear glass you want filmed, and the film follows. Full rear glass on a Model 3 is S9 only. The S5 package covers every side window plus half of the rear glass, from $330. Choosing S9 for the full rear glass also brings S9’s infrared rejection, covered next.

Model Y: S5 or S9?

On a Model Y, both films cover the same glass, so the choice is how much infrared you want held back. Infrared is the part of sunlight you feel as warmth through the glass. S5 rejects 53 to 72 percent of it, depending on shade. S9 rejects 91 to 93 percent across Rayno’s published shades.

Both block 99.9 percent of UV. The shade matters more on S5 than on S9. Here are Rayno’s figures for the shades the shop stocks in both films:

20 percent53 percent93 percent
35 percent53 percent92 percent
50 percent56 percent92 percent

S5 is rated highest at its darkest shade, 72 percent at 5, and lowest at 20 and 35, at 53 percent. S9 stays at 92 or 93 percent in every shade in the table, so a 50 percent S9 is rated higher than a 5 percent S5. If you want light glass and high infrared rejection together, the figures favor S9. If the starting price decides it, S5 starts at $330 on either model.

The shop also stocks S9 in 12 and 70 percent; Rayno publishes no figure for either. The ceramic window tint page compares S5 and S9 in full.

Is the glass roof included?

No. The glass roof is separate from both packages, on the Model 3 and the Model Y, and it is quoted rather than priced from a list. Ask for a roof price when you ask for your package price, with the model and model year, and the shop confirms the coverage and the exact number before you book.

Can you tint a Tesla windshield in Illinois?

On a Tesla registered in Illinois, the law allows nonreflective film only on the top 6 inches of the windshield. Full windshield film is for cars registered in another state or with the medical exemption. It is an add-on to either package, in S5 or S9, priced on the Tesla window tint page.

The rule comes from subsection (a) of 625 ILCS 5/12-503, and (a-10) bars installing more on an Illinois registered car without the medical exemption.

How dark can a Tesla go in Illinois?

A Tesla registered in Illinois follows the same rule as any other car: the windows behind the driver decide how dark the front side windows may go. Every package films the side windows front and back, so pick the rear shade and the front shade together.

The statute counts the light a treated window lets through, so film over factory tinted glass lets through less light than the film alone.

The rear windows have no minimum in the statute, with a side mirror on each side of the car. The Illinois window tint law page has every case, the medical exemption and the fines.

How do you get an exact Tesla price?

Call the shop with the model and the model year, or send them through the quote form. On a Model 3, say half or full rear glass. Say whether to add the windshield and whether you want a roof price. The shop gives you an exact price on the call, or calls you back within minutes during shop hours, Monday to Saturday 9 to 6, and the price is final once the shop confirms the coverage.

When you book, a $50 deposit holds your spot and comes off your total.

Questions

Is Model Y tint different from Model 3 tint?

Yes, on the rear glass and the S9 price. Both films cover every side window. On a Model Y, both add the rear glass. On a Model 3, S5 adds half of the rear glass and S9 all of it. Each model starts at $330 in S5 ceramic; the Tesla window tint page lists each model's S9 price.

Neither package includes the windshield or the glass roof.

Is a Model Y priced as an SUV for tint?

No. Tesla packages have their own prices in place of the general sedan and SUV prices. A Model Y starts at $330 in S5 ceramic, the same as a Model 3, while S5 on another SUV or truck starts at $400. On a Model Y, the package covers every side window plus the rear glass.

The glass roof and the windshield are not included; the roof is quoted separately.

Should I get S5 or S9 on a Model Y?

Choose by infrared rejection, because on a Model Y both films cover the same glass. S5 rejects 53 to 72 percent of infrared depending on shade and starts at $330. S9 rejects 91 to 93 percent across Rayno's published shades, and at 50 percent it is still rated 92. Both block 99.9 percent of UV.

The Tesla window tint page lists the S9 price for each model.
