What paint protection film does
Paint protection film is a clear urethane film laid over painted panels. It takes the rock chips, road grit, light scratches and bug and bird etching, so the paint under it does not. Clear bra is the older name for the same thing.
It goes where the car meets the road first: the front bumper, the leading edge of the hood, the fenders, the mirrors and the headlights. Highway miles put the chips there, and winter adds the salt and grit that the cars ahead throw back.
The film is clear. The color you see is still the factory paint.
What each package covers
PPF is priced by coverage. Every figure below is a starting price. The final number depends on the size of the car, the coverage and how hard the install is.
| Package | What it covers | Starts at |
|---|---|---|
| Headlights | Both headlights | $200 a pair |
| Partial front | Partial hood, partial fenders, the full front bumper and the mirrors | $1,000 |
| Full front | Full hood, full front fenders, the front bumper, the mirrors and the headlights | $1,800 |
| Full body | Full body coverage, quoted for your car | $5,000 |
The hood on its own and the front bumper on its own are also available. Call for those prices.
The difference between the two front packages is coverage. Partial front takes part of the hood and part of the fenders; full front takes the whole hood and both front fenders and adds the headlights. Ask where the film stops on your car when you call.
Who installs it
PPF at Tint Starz is installed by Jordin, whose business is Wrapology. He also does the shop’s vinyl wraps and chrome delete, in the same building as the tint at 837 Oakton St Unit C.
You book him through Tint Starz: one number to call, by appointment Monday to Saturday 9 to 6. His services are on Jordin’s page.
When should PPF go on?
Before the first chip, if you can. The film is clear, so a chip already in the paint stays visible under it, and on a new car the day it comes home is the best time. On a car with miles on it, send photos of the front end with your quote request, close enough to show the chips.
PPF and window tint at one address
Javi and Tony tint the glass. Jordin covers the paint. If you want both, ask for both prices at once.
PPF covers paint, not glass. For the windows, S5 ceramic tint starts at $250 on a coupe and blocks 99.9 percent of UV. Every tint price by vehicle and film is on window tint prices, and the tint shades page compares the shades before you pick one.
How to get your price
Call with the year, make and model and the package you want, or send them with a photo of the car through the form at the end of this page, and the shop calls you back within minutes during shop hours. The form at the end of this page sends the same request and takes two photos.
When you book, a $50 deposit holds your spot and comes off your total. You can also send the request from the quote page.
How much does paint protection film cost?
Paint protection film at Tint Starz starts at $200 for a pair of headlights, $1,000 for a partial front, $1,800 for a full front and $5,000 for full body. Every figure is a starting price: the final number depends on the size of the car, the coverage and how hard the install is.
Call the shop for your price, or send the request with photos through the quote page.
How much does Tesla PPF cost in Schaumburg?
PPF on a Tesla is priced the same way as on any car, by coverage: headlights from $200, partial front from $1,000, full front from $1,800 and full body from $5,000. The shop is at 837 Oakton St Unit C in Elk Grove Village, about 13 minutes from Schaumburg Village Hall outside rush hour.
Tint for the same car is on the Tesla window tint page.
PPF or ceramic coating: which do I need?
Get PPF if rock chips are the worry: it is a physical film that takes impacts. A ceramic coating is a thin liquid layer bonded to the paint that adds gloss and makes washing easier, but it does not stop a rock chip. Tint Starz has no multi-year coating; its 12-month ceramic spray sealant adds $59 to any exterior service.
Some owners put a coating over the film. The full detailing menu is on the car detailing page.
PPF or vinyl wrap: what is the difference?
PPF is clear and made to protect: it takes rock chips and scratches and leaves the factory paint showing. A vinyl wrap is colored film made to change how the car looks; it covers the paint but is not built to stop a rock chip. Jordin of Wrapology does both, and a color change wrap starts at $3,000.
Color change and chrome delete are on the vinyl wrap page.
